extra linkage, extra weakness
(mutter some vulgarity) Okay I'm not gonna contribute any more articles to the climbing club's yahoogroup or forum. For goodness sake I have my own blog.
This article is from UIAA about the use of carabiners for tying in. There have been cases of people falling because they tie in through the carabiners, even though they DID lock the gate. So climbers, don't be lazy, tie the blardy figure-of-8 knot!! Extra linkage means extra weakness, and the strength of a chain is the strength of its weakest link. What? You dunno how to tie? Get lost!
