debate vs quarrel

What is the difference between a debate and a quarrel?

A debate has no hostility. A debate is peaceful. A debate is fair (usually). A debate is gentlemanly.

A quarrel... hmm... when you have odd number of people, usually it is a quarrel, cos one side surely has more supporter/s than the other. (fence-sitting hurts thy butt). Voices are raised in a quarrel. Sensibility is a new vocab in a quarrel. Personal attacks are common in a quarrel. Saving face is one of the motives in a quarrel.

I just quarrelled with my mother and brother. Damn.

  • sigh...

mother started saying something hurting, i tried to reason, then they all said it's for my own good, blah blah blah....

wth, so if they think it's for my own good, they can say/do whatever they think is right? (regardless whether in reality it is bad for the person or not)

Reasoning with people who don't reason is plain stupid.

  • hmm.. gotta resolve it in a milder way i guess..

same thing happened to my sister.. and yeh.. she complained to me lor.. but well.. the reason behind a person's reasoning always has sense.. probe further.. and u might well see the sense.. but if u cant see the sense.. then probably, the reason has no sense at all.. talk things out properly.. and the person might just see tat his/her reason has no sense and your reason might have sense..
